What is E?

Imagine you’re at a conference. Meeting people, shaking hands, exchanging business cards. Once the conference is over and you get home, you’re stuck with a gigantic pile of business cards. You’d like to add most of these contacts to you LinkedIn account or your address book. You went out for a post-conference drink with some of the attendees, and would like to add them to Facebook as well. This means you’ll have to manually add all these contacts. One by one, and for each networking service again.

Some people address this problem by sending each other their contact information through a wireless connection on their cellphones. A process which could take up to several minutes to exchange information.

With E, you get a device which enables the user to exchange contact information with a simple gesture. Hold the devices together for less than a second and they exchange contact information. Once you synchronize the device to a PC or Mac, the information you’ve collected is uploaded to the E service, in which you can add your contacts directly to online services like LinkedIn or Facebook.

The Brand

E is a company which profiles itself as a bridge between the internet and real life, by providing customers a combination of integrated services and devices. Consumers can use E to connect each other’s social profiles and a wide range of other commercial and informative services. E is to launch as a stand-alone brand and platform, to which existing commercial and non-commercial services can be connected through partner licenses, technology licenses and an open API integration system.

The Devices

E’s flagship device is a small wearable/portable device with fine aesthetic and a simple, natural interaction. Consumers can use this device to connect to each other’s social network services like LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter by holding two devices together, much like a handshake. The devices transfer information to each other’s memory, which is synchronized to the E online service once the consumer connects the device to a PC or laptop computer via USB. The device can also be used in a wide range of location-based scenarios, ranging from conference-based informative purposes to consumer activity in retail.

The Online Service

E’s online service serves as a tie-in hub for a wide array of services; existing social networking services like LinkedIn, Facebook or Twitter will be integrated, as well as other services like YouTube, Flickr and offline services like payment systems and security access. E is not another social network, but an augmentation and platform of services which already exist. An open policy to development will ensure the release of an API in the future.

Online and Offline

E is not confined to online services. E brings the benefits of the web to real life situations, and also has the ability to connect to location-based services at conferences or corporate environments. All of this in a splendid user experience.

E’s simple design makes it implementable in both business and consumer environments because it addresses a clear problem (the integration of internet outside of conventional environments like computer, smartphones or PDAs), and provides a simple solution (physical gestures which take less than a second to perform) which implement the benefits of online services all at once.
